Here at Purple Angel Holidays its about far more than having that much needed break, but also about forging long lasting friendships.
Purple Angel Holidays are designed to offer carers and sufferers of dementia respite and relaxation in a Safe, Caring and Dementia aware environment.
Torbay was recently voted the most popular tourist destination in the UK. We also provide dementia friendly activities, attractions, restaurants and events.
Its hard to believe that the Purple Angel dementia awareness campaign is not quite 2 years old, and yet it has already achieved Global status, has over 370 Ambassadors worldwide and is known in many countries around the world. The reason ?
It was born out of need and necessity. It was born because we wanted to put
on the map, and it was born unfortunately because i myself was diagnosed with dementia seven years ago. My wife Elaine (My very own Angel and the reason this campaign is called Purple “Angel” ) has not only helped me, and still does, through this illness but has thrown her 35yrs experience as a professional carer behind this project, this is what makes this campaign so very different, because its been designed by YOU.
When I was diagnosed it became so very clear that the “REAL” people,”those in the know ” were being ignored and not being listened too. They were not being asked what they thought or how they would make things work better. Those who we call REAL people are everyday carers, both paid and unpaid. Those that work on the ground, 24/7 and have to deal with caring on a regular basis.
So WE DID!! WE ASKED YOU!!
We asked all of you wonderful people who have been caring for years how we could improve things, how we could make things better, not just for those with dementia but for all in general, and you responded. Thats how we know know Purple Angel holidays UK will work, because its YOU who designed it . We have listened to you and made sure that when you come for that break , thats exactly what you will have, a Holiday. We will have activity co coordinators to look after people / loved ones whilst you have that much needed “Time Out” A friend of mine who lost his father to dementia once said to me, if someone had offered him Four Hours respite, it would have felt like FOUR DAYS, and this is what we intend to do, re charge your batteries, help you de stress, and all in the wonderful surroundings of the English Rivera. Alway`s remember, if we dont look after the carer? Who looks after the cared for ??
